U.S. Government Relations
Advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights in U.S. foreign policy.
We focus on advocating for evidence-based U.S. government policies, programs and funding as well as working towards advancing sexual and reproductive health rights, globally.
PAI has mobilized more than 170 representatives and 40 senators in Congress to support the Global Health Empowerment and Rights (Global HER) Act to permanently repeal the Global Gag Rule.

PAI’s U.S. Government Advocacy project is focused on ensuring that the U.S. government protects, supports and advances SRHR worldwide through administrative policies, law and diplomatic engagement with non-governmental players.
Our work includes cultivating a knowledgeable and engaged base of SRHR champions in Congress and the executive branch. Working alongside these passionate individuals, PAI advocates to increase U.S. bilateral and multilateral family planning and reproductive health funding to support almost 218 million women in low-and-middle income countries – those who want to prevent or delay a pregnancy but may not have the access to modern contraceptive methods.
One of our goals is to fight against harmful policies like the Global Gag Rule, Helms Amendment, and decisions to defund the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) through strategic policy advocacy efforts in collaboration with global SRHR advocates and key stakeholders.
We are committed to ensuring that U.S. global health assistance reaches the most qualified, trusted and effective providers and implementers of global health programs.
The reinstatement and expansion of the Global Gag Rule demonstrate how repressive political decisions from other countries can affect population health and well-being in countries like Uganda.Moses Mulumba, executive director, Center for Health, Human Rights and Development (CEHURD)
