Biden-Harris 2022 Policy Wins
On January 20, 2023, the Biden-Harris administration hit the mid-point of their current term in office. From the start, President Biden and Vice President Harris asserted their support for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) on January 28, 2021, when they repealed the Global Gag Rule and reestablished U.S. financial support for the United Nations Population Fund. They built on this progress over the past two years with a slew of pro-SRHR statements, commitments in multilateral fora and new U.S. government strategies intended to promote gender equality. These wins are crucial, particularly as SRHR has faced unprecedented attacks during this time, including the fall of Roe v. Wade. But, with possibly only two years left in office, it’s time to support this rhetoric with concrete actions that can protect and bolster SRHR now and in the future.
