What We Do Now Matters More Than Ever

When I heard the results of the U.S. elections early yesterday morning, I was in shock. What would four years of an anti-woman president and a consolidated conservative Congress mean for reproductive freedom at home and abroad? What would it mean for a woman’s ability to control her own reproductive health? The future is uncertain at best and devastating at worst.

Women’s lives are at stake. What we do now matters more than ever. 

In trying to process what happened on Tuesday, I keep returning to a quote by feminist poet and activist Audre Lorde:

“I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.”

The next four years will be unpredictable and women’s reproductive rights will likely be under attack. But today we are doubling down on our commitment to defend these rights and to build a better and brighter tomorrow for women around the world.

The policy attacks will be tougher. The funding cuts more severe. But in more than 50 years, we’ve never backed down from a fight.

Restrictions that happen at home will be exported abroad and the most vulnerable women around the world will also be the most impacted. PAI will continue to stand with our network of more than 100 local partners in the global South and work harder than ever to make sure women’s reproductive rights are secure.

I want you to know that we will never stop. The world needs our work more than ever, and in this moment, we need one another more than ever.

Our fight just got longer, more difficult, and wholly unpredictable, but it is still a fight we are committed to winning. We need your help. We need you by our side every step of the way. Help us stand strong for women around the world.

Together, we will show up. Together, we will bring our greatest selves. And together, we will create a world of opportunities for women everywhere. For I am not free while any woman is unfree.
